If something goes wrong, blame IT!

“On Thursday, a US House committee investigating Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server voted along party lines to hold the Democratic presidential candidate’s former IT aide in contempt of Congress.

Bryan Pagliano, the former State Department IT technician who helped set up Clinton’s private e-mail server when she was secretary of state, did not appear before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee during its hearing investigating the server. However, Pagliano was subpoenaed,” Ars Technica concludes.

Ahh yes, I knew it! It was the technician!

Sure let’s blame IT… I would rather blame technology or even information security countermeasures for making it easy for Mrs. Clinton to use private email for business than the computer guy.

But ok, I understand. We need somebody from IT to take it.

At the same time can we please see the training certificate of all employees from the office who have passed the security awareness training?

This is where the suggestion of a secret recognition software I was writing about in my book “The Imperfect Secret” probably makes some sense. Let’s build some software that takes care of confidentiality itself. In this case we wouldn’t even need any sophisticated AI. The emails were tagged as confidential, a simple plugin in the mail client checking those tags, confirming the recipient’s identity and eligibility to access the content of the mail could have prevented it from being sent. I have to say that using software like that would have been more than enough.
